Marsch Named USA Assistant Coach

PRINCETON, N.J. (2/8/10) - Former Princeton men's soccer player Jesse Marsch '96 has been named an assistant coach on the staff of the U.S. Men's National Team, it was announced by head coach and Princeton alum Bob Bradley '80 on Saturday, Feb. 6. Marsch subsequently announced his retirement as a Major League Soccer player.
Marsch isn't a stranger to USA Soccer. He was a member of the
U.S. National Team during a World Cup qualifying match against Trinidad
and Tobago in 2001 and against China in 2007.
An All-America during this collegiate career, Marsch totaled 29 goals and 15 assists in four seasons as a Tiger. He finished 1994 and 1995 as the Ivy League's leading scorer and was on the All-Ivy League teams both years. He led the Tigers to an NCAA appearance during his senior year when he scored 16 goals.
Marsch began his professional soccer career in 1996 with D.C. United when Bradley was head coach. In 1998, Marsch was traded to the Chicago Fire. The Fire won four titles after his arrival including the 1998 MLS Cup and three US Open Cups. In 2004, he was honored as the Chicago Fire's US Soccer Foundation Humanitarian of the Year. In 2005, Marsch joined Chivas USA and has been with the team for the last five years and was team captain in 2008 and 2009.
Marsch is the first player to win three MLS Cup championships and is one of just four players that played in each of the first 12 years in the MLS. Marsch also has four US Open titles to his credt.
Marsch will begin his coaching with the national team on Feb. 10.
