Softball to Begin Spring Break Trip Saturday in California
March 12, 2010 | Softball
Princeton will face the two San Jose, Calif., schools at the city's PAL Stadium. The doubleheader against the Broncos will begin at 9 a.m. Pacific Time Saturday and the twinbill against the Spartans will start at 12 p.m. PT Sunday.
The four games will begin a 13-game, nine-day run for the Tigers, who will make stops in Fresno, Stockton and Palo Alto before the trip is through.
Princeton (1-5) opened its season last win at a Maryland-hosted tournament, facing Mount St. Mary's, Towson and the host Terrapins.
San Jose State enters the weekend with a record of 16-5 and plays Saturday against Saint Mary's (Calif.), while Santa Clara is 2-7 at present with games on Thursday and Friday against UC Davis and Cal State Fullerton.
All 14 Tigers, including all seven freshmen, not only saw action in the team's first weekend but all made at least one start. Senior Jamie Lettire has had the most success at the plate so far, hitting .500 with eight hits in 16 at bats. Her home run last weekend made it 30 for her career, putting Lettire into a three-player club alongside Kathryn Welch '09 and Melissa Finley '05 as Tigers who have hit 30 career home runs.
In the circle, rookies make up two of Princeton's three pitchers, with the senior Lettire throwing 15 of 34 innings so far and freshmen Alex Peyton and Liza Kuhn splitting the other 19.
Following the trip, Princeton will return home to host Rutgers and Lafayette on the final weekend in March.
