CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Claiming their 10th win overall and sixth in eight tries against fellow ranked opponents, the Princeton women's tennis team defeated the College of Charleston, 4-3, Tuesday afternoon.
Princeton, ranked No. 28 in the ITA poll released Tuesday, made it five straight wins over ranked teams with the victory over the No. 58 Cougars a day before staying around Charleston to face No. 40 North Carolina State Wednesday.
The Tigers had to rally after losing the doubles point, but Hilary Bartlett, Melissa Saiontz, Rachel Saiontz and Blakely Ashley picked up the needed four points for the team victory.
In the new rankings, Princeton regained the title of the top ranked team in the Northeast. No team east of Michigan and north of Virginia is ranked higher, and only Virginia Commonwealth, at No. 23, is a higher-ranked team outside the six major conferences.
Bartlett remained ranked among singles players, checking in at No. 81, while Bartlett and Taylor Marable remained on the doubles list, standing this week at No. 19.
