March 25, 2010 | Women's Tennis
PRINCETON -- Winning four of six singles matches in straight sets, the Princeton women's tennis team defeated Rutgers 5-2 Thursday afternoon at the Lenz Tennis Center.
Blakely Ashley, Rachel Saiontz, Monica Chow and Sarah Hoffman were winners on the doubles courts, while Rutgers' ranked doubles pair, Jennifer Holzberg and Amy Zhang, knocked off Princeton's ranked pair, Hilary Bartlett and Taylor Marable, to prevent a Tiger doubles sweep.
Bartlett, Saiontz, Ashley and Chow were Princeton's singles winners, with Chow giving up just one game each on the doubles and singles courts.
The win gives Princeton, ranked No. 32 in the nation by the ITA and No. 1 in the Northeast, seven victories over opponents from the six major conferences.
Heading into Saturday's noon Ivy opener against Penn at the Lenz Tennis Center (or Jadwin Gym if inclement weather), Princeton has won nine of its last 11 matches.
