Matheson's Goal Leads Canada to Cyprus Cup Win

PRINCETON -- The international soccer career of Princeton alumna Diana Matheson '08 added another highlight this week when the Ontario native scored against New Zealand in the Cyprus Cup final.
Between the tournament opener on Feb. 24 and the final on Mar. 3, Canada knocked off Switzerland, England, South Africa and New Zealand to win the title. Matheson had the final's only goal, scoring in the 70th minute to help Canada to a 1-0 win. Click here to view Canada Soccer's recap and a highlight of the goal.
Matheson's goal was the sixth of her international career, coming in her 99th international game. The next time she takes the field for Canada, Matheson will be come the sixth Canadian woman, fourth active and youngest active, to see action in 100 career matches. During the 2009 season, Matheson played for Team Strommen in Lillestrom, Norway. While at Princeton, Matheson was the 2004 Ivy League Rookie of the Year and an All-America selection while helping lead the Tigers to the College Cup semifinals. Following her career's completion in 2007, Matheson graduated as that year's Ivy League Player of the Year and the all-time assist leader in Princeton women's soccer history.
