PRINCETON -- For the third time in as many matches, the No. 45 Princeton women's tennis team has knocked off a fellow ranked squad, this time dealing No. 28 Marshall its first loss of the season.
Princeton (9-4) clinched the doubles point at the second position when Blakely Ashley and Rachel Saiontz outlasted Kara Kucin and Isabell Raich in a tiebreaker, 9-8.
In a battle of two singles players ranked by the ITA, Marshall's Michaela Kissel got past Hilary Bartlett 6-1, 6-2, but Ashley and Melissa Saiontz answered with wins at fifth and second singles, respectively. After Marshall cut the Princeton lead to 3-2 with a win at sixth singles, Princeton took the last two matches with victories by Taylor Marable and Rachel Saiontz to make the 5-2 final.
The Thundering Herd entered the match at 11-0 on the season but became the fifth ranked team to fall to Princeton this season.
