Men's Soccer Announces Class of 2014

N.J. (4/19/10) - Princeton head
men's soccer coach Jim Barlow has announced the recruiting class of six
student-athletes to join the team as the Class of 2014.
Joining the Tigers are:
Chris Benedict - Defender/Midfielder - Millburn, N.J./Milburn
Dylan Bowman - Midfielder - Midlothian, Va./James River
Seth MacMillan - Goalkeeper - Takoma Park, Md./Sidwell Friends
Billy McGuinness - Defender - La Grange Park, Ill./Lyons Township
Patrick O'Neil - Defender/Midfielder - Malvern, Pa./Conestoga
Brady Valashinas - Defender - Manhattan Beach, Calif./Mira Costa
Half of the incoming class has national team experience and two were state players of the years in their respective states - New Jersey and Illinois. They join a team that returns nine starters and 25 letterwinners overall.
"The class of 2014 has a ton of talent and experience at the highest level," coach Barlow said. "We expect them to make a big impact on our program over the next four years. With this class joining a group that returns nine starters from the team that advanced to the 2009 NCAA Tournament, we can't wait for the fall."
Chris Benedict
A four-year starter at Millburn High School in Millburn, N.J., Benedict helped
the team to the state championship in 2008 with a 23-2 record. As team captain
in 2009, Benedict guided the team to its second state final. During Chris'
tenure, the squad won three consecutive county championships while being named
all-conference, all-county and all-state three times apiece. As a senior
Benedict was named the Star-Ledger New Jersey State Player of the Year, ESPN
second-team All-America, NSCAA all-region and the Soccer Coaches of New Jersey
Player of the Year (North II).
Benedict is captain of the TSF Academy club team a club he has been with for seven years. TSF are the 2008 and 2009 State Cup Champions, regional semifinalists and Super Y League North American runners-up.
He was a member of the 2007 Super-Y ODP National Team training in Germany.
Benedict also lettered in baseball.
Dylan Bowman
Bowman is a three-year letterwinner and starter from James River High School in
Midlothian, Va. He is a two-year captain and was named first-team all-district
and second-team all-region as a sophomore and a junior. Bowman played club
soccer for FC Richmond Magic.
A member of the Virginia State ODP team for five years (2005-09), Bowman captained the team in 2008 and 2009. The squad was a finalist in the 2008 ODP National Championship and a regional finalist in 2009.
Bowman was on the U17 National Team pool players in the spring of 2008 and competed in seven matches.
Seth
MacMillan
A goalkeeper from Sidwell Friends School, MacMillan was a three-year
letterwinner. The Quakers won three MAC championships and was ranked No. 1 by
the Washington Post his senior year when he was team captain. MacMillan was
named first-team all-conference, all-district and was honorable mention
all-metro. ESPN Rise's state by state ranking, listed MacMillian as one of four
"top players in DC."
MacMillian plays for Pachuca FC USA Internationals. Pachuca was Maryland State Champions and Surf Cup champions. He also participated in the U17 National Team Camp in the summer of 2008.
Billy
McGuinness
A four-year letterwinner and starter for Lyons Township High School in La
Grange Park, Ill., McGuinness was named the 2009 Chicago Trubune Illinois Male
Soccer Player of the Year. He is a two-time all-state player by the Illinois
High School Soccer Coaches Association and the Chicago Tribune. McGuinness was named all-area by the
Chicago Sun-Times and all-Midwest Region by the NSCAA two times apiece.
McGuinness scored the winning goal in overtime to help Lyons win the 2009
Illinois Class AAA State Championship.
McGuinness was a 2009 member of the U16 US Soccer Development Academy's Select Team and was on the U16 Central Conference Starting Eleven that same year. He was captain of the 2009 Chicago Magic U16 team that placed third at the national finals, and captain of the 2010 Chicago Fire U18 team.
A member of the 2007 Super Y League ODP Selection Team, McGuiness was a 2008 adidas ESP participant and was listed on the Top Drawer Soccer Class of 2010 "Top 100" List in 2009 and 2010.
Patrick O'Neil
A defender/midfielder from Malvern, Pa., O'Neil was captain of the Conestoga soccer team his junior year and was named MVP as a senior. He was named first-team all-Central League in 2009 and was a second-team selection in 2008. O'Neil is also a two-time first-team all-Main Line pick.
O'Neil plays his club soccer with Lower Merion Velez. He has been captain of the club since 2006. LMV were National League Champions in 2009 and finished third in the national championship. The squad was the Region I Premier League Champion and Region I Champion in 2008. That same season the squad won the Pennsylvania State Cup.
Brady Valashinas
Valashinas is a graduate of the Mira Costa High School in Manhattan Beach,
Calif. He is a member of the LAFC Chelsea U18 Academy. He has been on two Nomad
Championship and US Club Championship teams. In 2006, Valashinas was named to
the Southern California summer ODP player pool.
For the past three seasons, Valashinas has played club soccer for LAFC Chelsea in the Developmental Academy Program. The club won back-to-back So Cal titles and placed sixth nationally in the inaugural Development Academy Program.
Valashinas was invited to the 2008-09 U18 US Men's Mega Camp. During the summer of 2009, he played several English youth teams while training at the Chelsea FC facility in Cobham, England.
