While there are much bigger postseason goals still on the horizon, the 2010 Tiger open crew will be looking to join some elite history with a victory Saturday morning. There have been only 10 undefeated open crews at Princeton; among them, only the 2006 squad managed a perfect record with as many as 12 regular-season races.
Furthermore, over the last 15 years, only two Princeton crews have gone undefeated (2005, 2006). With a win, the 2010 squad would join that group and do it with the second-most victories, behind the 14 won in 2006. That team went on to win the national championship in the NCAA grand final by more than six seconds.
It would be a heck of a regular-season accomplishment for a program that was once ranked eighth and faced a schedule with six teams ranked in the preseason Top 20, including three in the top five (Virginia, Yale and Brown).
Tennessee is coming off a solid performance at the Lake Natoma Invitational, where it placed fourth overall. The invitational featured California, currently the top-ranked team in the country, as well as top-10 squads Stanford and Washington State.
This will be Princeton's final competition until May 16, when it heads to Cooper River in Cherry Hill, N.J., to compete in the 2010 EAWRC championships. Princeton currently has the top-ranked boats in both the varsity eight and the varsity four and the second-ranked boat in the second varsity eight. The three boats are each undefeated against Eastern programs throughout April.
