Brosens, Pecotic Named Second-Team All-Ivy
April 29, 2010 | Men's Tennis
PRINCETON -- For their roles in helping Princeton to its first winning Ivy season since 2007, Charlie Brosens and Matija Pecotic were named second-team All-Ivy League by the league's coaches.
It is also the first time since 2007 that the Tigers have placed two players in the second-team All-Ivy or higher. Peter Capkovic '09 won first-team All-Ivy the last two seasons, but was the only Tiger on either the first or second teams. Three years ago, Capkovic was a first-teamer and Sratha Saengsuwarn '07 was a second-team honoree.
This year's honors are the first All-Ivy recognition for either player.
Both players split time between first and second singles during the Ivy League season. Brosens, a senior, played five of the seven Ivy matches in the top spot, going 2-3. Pecotic, a freshman, played the final Ivy weekend in the top spot and defeated Jonathan Wong, Columbia's top singles player.
The Tigers were in contention for a share of the league title through that season-closing match against the Lions, as Columbia wrapped up sole possession of the Ivy title and the NCAA berth with the win over Princeton. Princeton finished the season 8-13 overall and 4-3 in Ivy play, good for fifth in a top-heavy league that saw Columbia win at 6-1 and three teams -- Cornell, Yale and Harvard -- tie for second at 5-2.
