Volleyball Receives Senior Day Scare Before Topping Ramapo
April 03, 2010 | Men's Volleyball
Senior co-captains Jeff McCown and Carl Hamming combined for 32 kills to lead the Princeton men's volleyball team to a 3-2 victory over a resilient Ramapo squad Saturday afternoon at Dillon Gym.
One night after an emotional and exhausting 3-2 win over George Mason, Princeton needed a late rally to overcome the talented Roadrunner squad during Senior Day at Princeton. Despite trailing for much of the fifth set, Princeton got a pair of kills from Pat Schwagler and a big ace from McCown to earn a match ball, and junior Vincent Tuminelli recorded his 15th kill to close the win.
Princeton is now 7-1 at home, with six of those victories coming in five-set matches. Of those six wins, three were decided by only two points apiece.
McCown led the Tigers with 17 kills and a match-best five service aces, while both Hamming and Tuminelli recorded 15 kills. Junior Keenan McCarthy added 11 kills and five blocks, while junior John Morris recorded 50 assists.
Princeton will return to the court Wednesday night against Stevens Tech at 7 p.m. in Dillon Gym.
