May 14, 2010 | Women's Tennis
PRINCETON -- On the eve of her second NCAA tournament appearance in as many seasons, Hilary Bartlett has been selected as the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Northeast Region Player to Watch.
The ITA selected players from 12 regions for the honor and will select a national Player to Watch to be announced May 25.
"The ITA Player to Watch Award goes to a player who has an outstanding season and is expected to perform at a high level the rest of his or her career," the ITA's description for the award reads. "This award's criteria also includes a player's sportsmanship and character."
The Ivy League's Player of the Year for 2010, the sophomore Bartlett went undefeated through league play while holding down the Tigers' No. 1 singles position and helping the team to its No. 33 ranking nationally, its second Ivy League title in as many seasons, and its fourth-ever NCAA team tournament bid.
Bartlett, ranked No. 78 in the nation as a singles player by the ITA, will also play in the NCAA doubles tournament later this month for the second time in her collegiate career, alongside Taylor Marable.
The Tigers will face No. 27 Virginia Friday afternoon for the right to advance in the 64-team field.
