NCAA Draw Announced for Princeton's Doubles Pair
May 25, 2010 | Women's Tennis
PRINCETON -- Hilary Bartlett and Taylor Marable will open against the South Florida pair of Melissa Koning and Irene Rehberger in the NCAA doubles tournament Thursday at 6 p.m.
Bartlett, a sophomore, and Marable, a junior, are ranked No. 27 in the nation by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. A year ago heading into the postseason, the pair were ranked No. 50. Bartlett and Marable made a first-round exit against Mississippi's Karen Nijssen and Kristi Boxx by a 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 score in what was the first appearance in the NCAA individual postseason for any Tiger since 2002.
The draw consists of 32 pairs and will be decided on May 31. Of the eight seeded pairs among the 32, the one in Princeton's portion of the bracket is the No. 4 overall seed, Andrea Remynse and Yasmin Schnack of UCLA, who will open against an Old Dominion duo.
Bartlett was Princeton's top singles player all season and ended the campaign on an 11-match winning streak. As a pair, Bartlett and Marable closed the dual-meet season by winning their last three matches. The duo helped Princeton win a second straight Ivy League title and advance to the NCAA tournament.
Koning, a senior from Australia, and Rehberger, a junior from Spain, are ranked No. 16 at present and helped their team reach the second round of the NCAA tournament two weekends ago as the Bulls' top two singles players.
Bartlett and Marable were ranked as high as No. 16 this season, and the South Florida pair will be the highest ranked opponent for the Tiger duo this season. The highest ranked opponent Bartlett and Marable defeated this season were a Marshall pair, Michaela Kissel and Dominika Zaprazna, who were ranked No. 30 when the Tigers upended the No. 28 Thundering Herd on March 6.
