Softball Adds Four for 2011

Three of the new Tigers come from California with one from Virginia, bringing the total to eight Golden Staters on the projected roster for next spring.
"These four athletes are an excellent combination of speed, athleticism and versatile talent," Salcido said. "Their energy and competitive drive are an excellent addition to the Princetion softball program."
Maddie Cousens, from Albany High in Albany, Calif., played catcher and outfield for her club team, the Bears 18 Gold. Her Albany team won three league titles during her time, and she was a four-year all-league honoree. Cousens, who bats and throws right-handed, also played basketball at Albany.
Khristin Kyllo, from James Madison High in Vienna, Va., helped her team win district titles in both softball and basketball in high school. Her senior-year softball team, which she captained, was a regional champion, and she earned all-district honors throughout her career while also capturing two American Legion Athletic Scholar Awards. Kyllo, a left-handed hitter who throws right-handed, played for the Shamrocks club team, splitting time between shortstop, second base and center field.
Tory Roberts, from Ramona High in Ramona, Calif., is a right-handed middle infielder who played softball for the San Diego Breakers and the So Cal Breakers. Roberts, an all-league honoree during her career, won several academic honors in high school including serving as the valedictorian. Roberts also played two years of volleyball at Ramona and has an older sister Dana who completed her softball career at Harvard this spring.
Austin Sanders, from Francis Parker High in San Diego, Calif., is a left-handed hitting, right-handed throwing outfielder who helped her team to league and divisional championships during her career. Sanders, an all-league and all-division player, hit .385 in her senior year while stealing bases on all 25 attempts to finish her career with 82 steals on 93 attempts. Sanders was also a cheerleader and an accomplished track athlete in high school as a sprinter and a jumper, advancing to sectional finals in the sprint events.
