August 19, 2010 | Women's Golf
PRINCETON -- Incoming freshman golfer Kelly Shon advanced out of stroke play and won two match-play rounds at the U.S. Women's Amateur tournament, which wrapped Aug. 15.
In two rounds of stroke play at Charlotte Country Club in North Carolina, Shon turned a 71 and a 75 to finish at +2, well ahead of the cut line at +7.
Shon began match play against Meghan Stasi, a 2000 alumnus of Tulane, with a 4 and 3 win. In the round of 32, Shon got past Nicole Vandermade, a rising junior at Texas, 2 and 1 to advance to the round of 16. Stephanie Sherlock, a 2010 alumnus of Denver, defeated Shon 3 and 1 to end the soon-to-be Tiger's run. Danielle Kang, a rising sophomore at Pepperdine, went on to win the event.
Shon, a native of Port Washington, N.Y., is set to be the lone freshman on the Princeton women's golf team when its season begins in September.
