TigerCam Visits Women's Soccer Preseason Practice
August 27, 2010 | Women's Soccer
PRINCETON -- Just a week after the Princeton women's soccer team began its activities for the 2010 season on Aug. 19, TigerCam dropped by Plummer Field, part of the team's two-year-old Roberts Stadium complex, to chat with senior co-captain Kayleigh Iatarola and head coach Julie Shackford about how the preparation is coming along.
Princeton will open its season Friday, Sept. 3 at Rutgers, which won its first game 3-0 over Stony Brook on Aug. 30 and has two more contests before hosting the Tigers. The win bumped Rutgers up one spot to No. 17 in the NSCAA national rankings.
The Tigers lost three seniors from last year's team but return two-time first-team All-Ivy League goalkeeper Alyssa Pont as the last line of a defense that allowed 0.53 goals per game in 2008 and 0.82 last season. On the offensive end, the Tigers return three-quarters of their points from last season, led by sophomore Jen Hoy who picked up three goals and two assists.
Princeton will have 10 home games this season, its most regular-season contests at home in a decade, beginning with a Sept. 5 visit from Seton Hall that will bring the program's all-time leading scorer, Esmeralda Negron '05, back to campus as an assistant coach for the Pirates.
