Bartlett, Marable Earn National ITA Preseason Rankings
September 11, 2010 | Women's Tennis
PRINCETON -- Less than four months after ending their season in the second round of the NCAA doubles tournament, Hilary Bartlett and Taylor Marable have a spot in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's preseason rankings.
The pair are ranked No. 8 in the nation as a doubles team, while Bartlett is ranked No. 49 as a singles player. Last season, Bartlett and Marable finished the spring ranked No. 28, and Bartlett was No. 73 in singles.
With the high rankings, Bartlett qualified for the main-draw singles bracket at the ITA All-America tournament in California next month, while Bartlett and Marable will be in the main-draw doubles bracket at the event. Junior Rachel Saiontz earned the No. 2 alternate bid, putting her on a list to gain a spot in the prequalifying singles draw if players withdraw from the event.
The next ITA rankings will come out January 4, 2011, which will also be the first release of the ITA's team rankings. Princeton ended last spring ranked No. 36 as a team.
Bartlett and Marable have played a key role in the Tigers' resurgence, as Princeton has made back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances the last two years for the first time since 1993 and 1994.
