Ninth-Minute Goal Leads LIU over Women's Soccer
September 17, 2010 | Women's Soccer
PRINCETON -- A three-game winning streak that saw the Princeton women's soccer team score 10 goals came to an end Friday night on Myslik Field at Roberts Stadium when Long Island scored a ninth-minute goal to beat the Tigers 1-0.
Princeton falls to 3-2 on the season with the loss and will have a quick turnaround before facing Hofstra in a 1 p.m. game Sunday. With the win, Long Island runs its unbeaten streak to five games since a 2-1 loss to Cal Poly in Hawaii on Aug. 28.
Long Island's goal came shortly after a throw in, when Ariana Calderon found Toni Smith in a corner of the 18-yard box. Smith arced a shot over Tiger goalkeeper Kristin Watson, and the Blackbirds were able to keep Princeton from finding the equalizer at the other end.
Jen Hoy had three of Princeton's four shots on goal with each goalkeeper making four saves to preserve the margin.
