Women's Soccer to Host Saint Joseph's Wednesday
September 21, 2010 | Women's Soccer
PRINCETON -- Three years ago, a 2-0 win over Saint Joseph's sparked the Princeton women's soccer team on a seven-game winning streak following five winless contests to start the season. This time, with Princeton looking to break a two-game skid, the Hawks return to campus for the Tigers' final pre-Ivy League contest Wednesday night on Myslik Field at Roberts Stadium.

The 2007 meeting was the first between the two schools, a contest played at Princeton Stadium while Lourie-Love Field was being transformed into Roberts Stadium. Coming off back-to-back losses three years ago, the Tigers were able to use the Saint Joseph's win and a subsequent home victory over Sacred Heart as momentum toward a 3-0 Ivy League start. Once again, the Tigers are coming off back-to-back losses and the Ivy schedule is close at hand, with the Tigers opening at Yale Saturday afternoon.
Though the context for the Tigers is similar, those on the field for both teams will be almost entirely different. Three current Princeton seniors -- Alexandra Valerio, Lauren Whatley and Kayleigh Iatarola -- played in the 2007 game, and only one Hawk senior, Carly Salter, did so for Saint Joseph's.
This season, those Tigers who have made the biggest impact on offense were well into their high school careers when the Tigers and Hawks first met. The sophomore duo of Caitlin Blosser (two goals, five assists) and Jen Hoy (four goals) have combined for 17 of Princeton's 28 points this season. In goal, sophomore Kristin Watson has played the last 412 minutes and won her first three games before back-to-back 1-0 losses last weekend.
Saint Joseph's comes to Princeton also looking to turn things around, having lost three of its last four games including defeats against a Hartford team the Tigers knocked off earlier this season and a Penn team that Princeton will face to close the regular season. Sophomore Christine Neal has played most of the minutes in goal for the Hawks, and junior Jen Pfeiffer (seven) and freshman Mo Hawkins (three) have scored 10 of Saint Joseph's 11 goals this season.
