Hoppenot Named Ivy League Player of the Week

PRINCETON, N.J. (9/27/10) - Junior Antoine Hoppenot of the Princeton men's soccer team was named the Ivy League Player of the Week it was announced by the league office on Monday, Sept. 27. In addition he was named the GoPrincetonTigers.com Athlete of the Week presented by Coach USA.
Hoppenot helped Princeton get back on track winning both of its games this weekend. The Tigers won the 2010 Princeton Invitational over a nationally-ranked Penn squad and an Adelphi squad that entered the weekend 4-2. Princeton defeated Richmond 3-1 on Friday night and followed by with a 3-0 win on Sunday. Hoppenot was crucial to Princeton's success, scoring four of the Tiger's six goals on the weekend. For his efforts he was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Down 1-0 on Friday to Richmond, Hoppenot tallied the equalizer in the 55th minute and scored Princeton's third goal when he buried a missed penalty kick but using his speed to get off the line and to the rebound.
On Sunday, Adelphi had a 21-13 shot advantage over Princeton but Hoppenot's two goals in the second half made the difference. He scored in the 62nd minute when he got picked up a cross in the box and fired into the lower left corner. In the 65th minute he put the game out of reach for the Panthers when he sprinted past his defender to the near post and sent the ball into the back of the net.
Princeton opens Ivy League play hosting Dartmouth on Saturday, Oct. 2 at 6 p.m.
