Men's Soccer 2010 Season Preview
September 03, 2010 | Men's Soccer
The Tigers return nine starters from a 2009 squad that went 9-6-3 overall and finished third in the Ivy League with a 4-2-1 mark. Princeton earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2001, and was awarded home advantage in the first round. Princeton led the league in All-Ivy selections with eight total.
The team lost four seniors and brings in seven newcomers. In addition, the 30-man roster contains 10 seniors. It's strong veteran presence led to Princeton earning the No. 27 ranking in two preseason national polls, by College Soccer News and Top Drawer Soccer.
The Tigers will play a total of 17 games with 10 home games including the Princeton Tournament in late September. Princeton's non-league slate contains 10 teams from four conferences. The Ivy League schedule begins on October 2 and will be another tough challenge as four of the eight teams made appearances in the NCAA Tournament in 2009.
Princeton opens the season at Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday, Sept. 4 at 7 p.m. The home opener is slated for Friday, Sept. 10 against American at 7 p.m.
