PRINCETON, N.J. (1/18/11) - Josh Walburn and Teddy Schneider of the Princeton men's soccer team have been drafted in the Major League Soccer Supplemental Draft that was held on Tuesday, Jan. 18.
Walburn was selected by the Philadelphia Union in the second round as the 23rd pick overall. Schneider was picked 30th by the New York Red Bulls in the same round.
"We are really excited that Josh and Teddy have been drafted by MLS teams," Princeton head coach Jim Barlow said. "They both had tremendous careers here and were a big part of our success over the past few seasons. Josh played several different positions for us and came up with many huge goals and assists, while Teddy was a reliable, consistent presence at left back. We wish them all the best as they take their talents to the next level."
Walburn was named first-team All-Ivy the past two seasons, as well a first-team all-region in 2010. He was named to the preseason All-America list prior to the 2010 season and was also named one of 30 candidates for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award. After missing the first four games because of an injury, Walburn started the next 14 games and guided his team to a 12-2 record. He finished as the league's top assist getter with seven while scoring six goals, four of which were game winners.
Schneider was named second-team All-Ivy in 2010 when he started all 18 games at left back. He scored one goal and finished second on the team in assists with five. Schneider was named to the Princeton All-Tournament team in September as part of the defense that allowed just one goal in two games and tallying an assist. Highlighting his season was earning two assists in a 3-0 shutout of No. 13 Brown. Schneider was a part of the defense that has held teams to 1.06 goals per game and allowed just 37.8 percent of shots to make it on goal.
Princeton finished the 2010 season with a 13-4-1 overall record, the most wins in program history. The Tigers went unscathed in the Ivy League for the first time in program history with a 7-0 mark to be crowned the Ivy League Champions. Princeton earned its second straight NCAA Tournament bid after closing out the regular season on a 12-game winning streak.
