October 22, 2011 | Men's Soccer
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (10/22/11) - Freshman Cameron Porter scored the game-winning goal and classmate Julian Griggs scored twice to give the Princeton men's soccer team a 3-2 win over Harvard on Saturday, Oct. 22 at Ohiri Field.
It was the Tigers' first win this season in the Ivy League as they improve to 4-8-1 overall.
Porter picked up a pass from classmate Myles McGinley and scored on a tough angle for the go-ahead goal in the 71st minute.
Both teams scored twice in the first half, with Harvard getting on the scoreboard first. Obiajulu Agha headed in a Eric Slingerland long ball in the 17th minute but the Crimson lead would be short lived as the Tigers answered three minutes later.
Sophomore Chris Benedict served a ball to Griggs, who dribbled into the box and rifled a shot from the left side in past goalkeeper Austin Harms at 20:03. It was Griggs' first career goal.
Michael Innocenzi put the Crimson back on top in the 32nd minute. Jamie Rees sent a cross from the right side and Innocenzi blasted a low shot inside the left post.
Griggs added his second goal less than six minutes later when Porter sent him a cross and he buried it at 37:56.
Princeton outshot Harvard, 8-6, in the first half and owned a 2-1 edge in corners. Princeton keeper Max Gallin made one save in net in the first half before being replaced by sophomore Seth MacMillan following the break.
With time winding down, Harvard managed two shots on net in the 82nd and 89th minute but both were stopped by MacMillan who finished the game with two saves.
Princeton finished the game with a 14-13 edge in shots and took three corners to Harvard's four.
Princeton returns home to host Cornell on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 4 p.m., on Myslik Field at Roberts Stadium.
