Saturday will bring Cornell to Myslik Field at Roberts Stadium for the Princeton women's soccer team's final home game of the season.
The game will be significant for players at both ends of their collegiate careers. It will be Senior Day for Princeton's three members of the Class of 2012, including defenders Kim Menafra and Kalie Bartholomew and co-captain and midfielder Sara Chehrehsa.
It will also be the final home game of the season for an eight-member freshman class that has already made an impact on the program. Five of the six field players in the class have scored a goal, led by reigning Ivy League Rookie of the Week Lauren Lazo and her four goals and four assists. Both goalkeepers in the class, Darcy Hargadon and MicKenzie Roberts-Lahti, have seen time between the posts this season.
Princeton has enjoyed a 15-game winning streak over Cornell that dates back to 1996, Julie Shackford's second season as coach. The last two meetings, however, have been decided in overtime.
Aside from late-game goalkeeping duty from Kristin Watson in a 4-0 Princeton win over the Big Red in 2008, current Tigers only figured into the goal scoring and goalkeeping in the series in last year's game. Fifty minutes after benefitting from an own goal, Princeton saw Bartholomew score in the 96th minute to beat the Big Red 2-1 and get Watson a victory last Oct. 30.
Jen Hoy remains the Tigers' leader in goals with seven after scoring at Harvard last weekend, while Maneesha Chitanvis, who scored Cornell's goal against Princeton last season, leads the Big Red tote with five. In goal, Megan Bartlett and Kelly Murphy have combined for all but 10 minutes for Cornell, with Bartlett carrying a 2.05 GAA and a 1-6-1 record and Murphy entering at 2.03 with a 1-5 record. Watson (3-3-0, 1.09) has made six of the last seven starts in goal for Princeton.
Princeton will close the season at Penn on Nov. 5.
