In the last five meetings, dating back to 2006, Princeton has scored three goals in every game which led to a 4-1 record. The Pirates hold a slim 11-9-5 advantage in the series that began in 1986.
Princeton is seeking to end a four-game losing skid as the Tigers sit 1-6-1 on the season. The squad averages 13.5 shots per game and has outshot the opponent in five of eight games this season. Freshman Cameron Porter and senior Antoine Hoppenot both have six points, Porter getting his by way of three goals, while Hoppenot has four assists and one goal. Juniors Matt Sanner, Mark Linnville and sophomore Patrick O'Neil have two points apiece. Junior Max Gallin has started all eight games and has made 27 saves on 33 shots for a 1.86 goals against average and a .628 save percentage.
Seton Hall is 4-4-2 and coming off of a 3-0 loss to Villanova, a team that Princeton earned its lone win against. The Pirates are allowing 15.4 shots per game and average 12.9. Seton Hall is led offensively by Max Garcia who has four of the team's 11 goals for eight points. Giovanni Zammiello has five points on two goals and one assist and Adriano Gabriele has two goals for four points. The Pirates has utilized three goalkeepers this season. Last year, Josh Walburn scored the golden goal on a penalty kick to give Princeton a 3-2 win over Seton Hall on Tuesday, Oct. 5 on Myslik Field at Roberts Stadium. It marked the fourth win in Princeton's 12-game win streak of 2010. Princeton got off to a 2-0 start but Seton Hall rallied to score two goals in the second half. Princeton was awarded the penalty kick in the 98th minute when junior Antoine Hoppenot was taken down inside of the box on the far side. Walburn took the shot and blasted the ball past the left side of goalkeeper Kevin Bonder.
It was a tale of two halves as Princeton dominated the first half and Seton Hall controlling the second after it started to break down the Tigers' defense. Hoppenot scored about 12 minutes into the game when Walburn threaded a ball up the right flank and Hoppenot fought off his two defenders and sent the ball into the upper left 90. Junior Manny Sardinha gave Princeton the 2-0 lead in the 63rd minute on a great chip from sophomore Dylan Bowman. Sophomore Lester Nare fed Bowman the ball and Bowman chipped it from the left side over into the right side of the 18 to Sardinha who picks up his second goal in as many games.
Six minutes later Dritan Sela cut Princeton's lead back to one when he teamed up with Andrew Welker for a give-and-go. Sela delivered a low shot that slipped through the wet hands of goalkeeper Sean Lynch on this drizzly night. Max Garcia evened the game with less than six minutes remaining in regulation when he headed in a long pass from Victor Manosalvas that came from the touch line near his own team bench.
Seton Hall ended up outshooting Princeton, 19-17, after a 12-4 advantage in the second half. Lynch and Bonder each finished with seven saves as shots on goal were in the Tigers' favor 10-9.
