PRINCETON, N.J. (10/6/11) - Princeton and Brown are both seeking their first Ivy League win as the men's soccer teams meet in Providence on Saturday, Oct. 8. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
The game will be webstreamed for a fee of $8 or fans can listen to audio and follow live stats free of charge.
Princeton is coming off of a 7-3 win over Seton Hall from Tuesday night in South Orange, N.J. The Tigers are 2-6-1 overall and dropped their conference opener at Dartmouth one week ago. Princeton averages two more shots (13.8-11.8) and three more corners (7-4.5) per game than its opponents. Leading the Tigers offensively is senior Antoine Hoppenot, the 2010 Ivy League Player of the Year. Hoppenot has scored three goals and added five assists for 11 points. Freshman Cameron Porter, this week's Ivy League Rookie of the Week, has seven points on three goals and one helper. Junior Matt Sanner has also scored three times and has both game-winning goals to his credit. Junior Max Gallin has started eight games in goal and has made 27 saves on 43 shots for a 1.86 goals against average and a .628 save percentage. Sophomore Seth MacMillan got the nod in the Seton Hall game and made two stops on five shots.
Brown is 5-4-1 on the season and lost to Columbia 2-1 in double overtime in the Ivy opener. The Bears most recently played to a scoreless tie with St. John's, a team that narrowly defeated Princeton in double overtime, scoring with 4.2 seconds left. T.J. Popolizio sits atop the scoring column with 13 points with a team-high six goals. Three of those goals are game winners. Sean Rosa has four goals and one assists for nine points and Thomas McNamara has four points. Taylor Gorman boasts a team-best three assists. The Bears split goaltending duties between Sam Kernan-Schloss and Alex Carr. Kernan-Schloss has the better numbers making 14 saves on 18 shots for a 0.75 GAA and a .778 save percentage, to go along with three shutouts. Kernan-Schloss will most likely be in goal on Saturday, as he has started the last four games. Carr has made 12 saves on 19 shots for a 1.40 GAA and a .632 save percentage and has two shutouts.
Brown holds a 33-20-6 record in the series with Princeton, that began in 1948. Princeton won a 3-0 game at home last season, its first win in the series since 2004.
Sophomore Lester Nare scored two goals to lead Princeton to a 3-0 upset of No. 13 Brown on Saturday, Oct. 9 on Myslik Field at Roberts Stadium. The Bears entered the game undefeated and had only allowed one goal in nine games.
Brown outshot Princeton 16-10 in the game, but both teams had five shots on goal apiece. Brown took 12 corners but could get nothing off of them except for a single shot that was saved. Princeton took four corners and scored off of two.
Senior goalkeeper Sean Lynch made three stops before sustaining an injury in the 68th minute after a collision at the top of the 18-yard box with Brown's Sean Rosa. Sophomore Max Gallin made his first appearance and made two saves in the final 22 minutes.
Nare put Princeton on the scoreboard in the 16th minute with a goal on a restart with help from sophomore Matt Sanner and senior Teddy Schneider. Linnville made it 2-0 in the 59th minute scoring his first career goal with help from Schneider. Schneider set up Nare for the team's third goal with a corner kick.
