Senior co-captain Meredith Monroe has been a standout performer on a trio of Ivy League championship teams throughout her career. She created another highlight Sunday night by winning the 200 back consolation final at the Minnesota Grand Prix and giving Princeton's its first Top-10 finish of the weekend.
Monroe, who reached the consolation final in the 100 back Saturday night, won the 200 back consolation final in a time of 2:17.16. That time was actually the seventh-fastest of the evening session, but ninth was the highest she could place after missing out on the championship final. It completed a very impressive opening weekend for the most experienced member of Princeton's 2011-12 squad.
Freshman Damaris Iriondo opened the final day of the meet with a 24th-place finish in the 800 with a time of 9:11.30. Classmate Claire Loht placed 34th in 9:25.00, while yet another freshman, Courtney Ciardiello, took 52nd in the 200 back in 2:28.37. Both Lisa Boyce and Carter Stephens had Top-70 finishes in the 100 free, while Sarah Liang had a Top-100 finish in the 200 IM.
The Minnesota Grand Prix, the inaugural event of the 2011-12 USA Swimming Grand Prix Series, began Friday night at the University of Minnesota, and nine current or former Tigers took part in the prestigious event.
With every opportunity to race in long-course events during an Olympic year being an invaluable opportunity, Princeton joined some of the biggest names in American swimming. The likes of Michael Phelps, Katie Hoff, Ryan Lochte and Dara Torres were all at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center, along with eight current Princeton swimmers and Megan Waters '11, last year's Ivy League Championships Swimmer of the Meet.

Princeton will bring a 38-meet win streak into next weekend's Ivy League opener when it swims against both Penn and Cornell Saturday in Philadelphia.
