Women's Swimming Extends Streak To 40 With Wins Over Cornell, Penn

With victories in 11 of 16 events, the Princeton women's swimming and diving team opened its dual meet season with victories of 180-99.5 over Cornell and 155-125 over Penn.
Princeton, the reigning two-time Ivy League champion, opened the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay, as Lisa Boyce, Emily Yu, Carter Stephens and Kerry Gruendel took the event in 1:44.85.
Freshman Damaris Iriondo placed second in the opening individual event, finishing the 1000 in 10:22.03. Classmate Claire Loht won the 200 free in 1:51.83, while Shirley Wang won the 100 back in 57.57. Stephens won the 200 fly in 2:03.74, while Boyce took the 100 free in 51.44.
In the 1-meter diving competition, Princeton went 1-2 in a razor-close competition. Senior Christina Kirkwood won with 236.65 points, while Randi Brown took second with 236.00 points. Kirkwood also took second in the three-meter event with 249.65 points.
The Tigers went 1-2-3 in the 200 back, with Meredith Monroe taking the event in 2:05.30. Wang placed second in 2:05.32, while freshman Courtney Ciardiello took third in 2:07.27.
Yu took third in the 200 breast (2:24.11) and fourth in the 100 breast (1:06.85). Loht won the 500 free in 5:02.18, topping teammate Iriondo, who took second in 5:03.59. Stephens won the 100 fly in 56.38, and Gruendel took third in the 200 IM in 2:09.70. The quartet of Boyce, Monroe, Qu and Stephens closed the meet by winning the 400 free relay in 3:32.76.
