Wrestling Opens Full Weekend With Tri-Meet Against Rider, Wisconsin
November 17, 2011 | Wrestling
Coming off a strong performance at the Binghamton Open, where Princeton placed six in the top six, the Tiger wrestling dual meet season will open Friday afternoon at Rider in matches against both Rider and Wisconsin.
Though the matches will not be in Dillon Gym, GoPrincetonTigers.TV subscribers will have full access to Rider's video stream. You can log on to GoPrincetonTigers.TV here.
After placing only four wrestlers in the last three years combined at the Binghamton Open, the Tigers saw six non-seniors each place last Sunday. Juniors Garrett Frey (125) and Zach Bintliff (149), sophomores Adam Krop (141), Brandon Rolnick (165) and Ryan Callahan (184), and freshman Chris Perez each earned a top-six finish Sunday to complete the first day of the Princeton wrestling season.
Princeton has much higher goals for its dual meet season, as head coach Chris Ayres talks about in the latest edition of TigerCast (see link above). The Tigers will be challenged Friday against a pair of tough opponents. Rider defeated Princeton 30-10 last year in Dillon Gym, with only Frey and Kolodzik earning victories for the Tigers. The Tigers lost six decisions by five points or fewer, while both Frey and Kolodzik, the 2011-12 co-captains, both earned bonus points.
This will be Princeton's first meeting against Wisconsin since Dec. 6, 2003, when the Badgers recorded a 32-9 win in Dillon Gym. Wisconsin opened its season last weekend by sweeping the Badger Duals, and it has a pair of Top-20 starters in its probable lineup.
Princeton will head to Philadelphia Sunday to compete in the Keystone Open, where it finished eighth as a team last year. The Tigers placed four there last year, including a runner-up finish for Frey at 125.
