Thompson, Campbell Help USA to Pan Am Fencing Gold

Soren Thompson '05 and Lindsay Campbell '02 helped the American men's and women's epee teams to gold medals at the recent Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico.
The men's epee team competition, which took place on October 27, saw Team USA defeat El Salvador, Chile and Venezuela to claim the gold. In the individual competition on October 24, Thompson finished fourth of 18 competitors, top among Americans, in the qualification before advancing to the quarterfinals in the elimination draw. Thompson defeated Chilean Rolf Nickel 15-6 in the round of 16 before falling to Venezuelan Ruben Limardo in the round of eight. The women's team competition, which took place on October 29, the Americans defeated Cuba, Argentina and Canada to win gold.
Princeton will open its season Nov. 18-19 at the annual Penn State Open individual event.
