Fencing Teams Combine for Eight Wins at Penn State

The Princeton fencing teams opened their dual-meet seasons Saturday at Penn State as the men's team and the women's team each went 4-1 on the day.
Both programs had wins over Vassar, Sacred Heart, NYU and North Carolina, while Penn State defeated both programs by the score of 14-13. The Princeton men had four bouts go against them against Penn State by the score of 5-4, while the Tiger women had six such bouts against the Nittany Lions.
The two Princeton programs combined to finish last year's NCAA championship fourth behind Notre Dame, Penn State and St. John's.
On the day, the women's saber squad was the most successful of the six Princeton weapons, going 36-9 over the five duals, while the saber, at 34-11, was the winningest men's weapon. Among Tigers, foilists freshman Sharon Gao and senior Lucile Jarry piled up the most wins individually, each going 12-3. Sophomore saberists Robert Stone (11-2) and Phillip Dershwitz (11-3) were the winningest Princeton male fencers.
