Women First, Men Third Midway Through Ivy Fencing Meet
February 12, 2011 | Men's Fencing, Women's Fencing
Princeton's women's fencing team is halfway toward reaching its goal of a successful defense of the 2010 Ivy League title, while the men's team split its two matches Saturday as it looks to do the same.
The Tiger women are tied with Columbia at 3-0 after wins over Cornell, Brown and Harvard, one match ahead of the Crimson (2-1). Brown (1-1), Penn (0-2), Yale (0-2) and Cornell (0-3) round out the standings.
Princeton will open Sunday's action at Jadwin Gym against Columbia at 10 a.m., followed by Yale at 1:15 p.m. and Penn at 2:30.
The men's team defeated Brown but fell to Harvard, which co-leads the Ivy standings with Yale at 2-0. Penn and Princeton are even at 1-1, while Brown and Columbia are 0-2.
Individually, saberists Diamond Wheeler and Eliza Stone went 8-1 during the day's competition, as did epeeist Hannah Safford. Epeeist Mike Elfassy and foilists Alexander Mills were the men's top performers, both going 5-1.
