Men's Tennis Moves into ECAC Semis, Tops St. John's 6-1

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- After sitting out of Friday's action while awaiting its first-round opponent, the Princeton men's tennis teams defeated St. John's 6-1 Saturday afternoon in the ECAC quarterfinal and will now advance to a semifinal match against third-seeded Binghamton to be played Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
Princeton, the tournament's No. 2 seed and the ITA's national No. 74 team, won the doubles point when Alex Faust and Yohei Shoji outlasted the Red Storm's Michael Lampa and Matty Najfeld 8-6 at third doubles.
Matija Pecotic, Matt Siow and Augie Bloom provided the next three points for Princeton to clinch the match, while Dan Richardson added to it with his win at fifth singles. The Red Storm's only point came when Najfeld won a third set that was played in a tiebreak format since the match had already been clinched.
The participants in the other semifinal, either Cornell or Columbia and either Brown or Harvard, will be decided later Saturday.
