Women's Tennis Tops Penn State 6-1
February 27, 2011 | Women's Tennis
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Princeton's women's tennis team moved back to even on the season with a 6-1 win Sunday afternoon at Penn State.
The match came a day after No. 38 Princeton suffered its fifth loss to a ranked team this season, this one by a 4-3 margin to No. 23 Virginia Commonwealth in a match hosted by Penn State. The weekend began a long road swing for the Tigers, who will play their last six non-league matches through spring break away from Jadwin Gym before beginning the Ivy League season at Penn.
Princeton (5-5) clinched the doubles point with wins by Hilary Bartlett and Taylor Marable and by Blakely Ashley and Rachel Saiontz. All four went on to win their singles matches, as well as Katherine Flanigan, with Bartlett defeating an ITA-ranked opponent in No. 89 Petra Januskova on court one. That match was one of two to go three sets, with Bartlett and Rachel Saiontz rallying from first-set losses to win.
Princeton will head south next weekend for a Friday match at William & Mary, currently ranked No. 75 in the country, followed by a Saturday match at No. 58 Maryland. A new ITA poll will be out Tuesday.
