WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- Getting its first victory of the season over a fellow ITA-ranked opponent, the Princeton women's tennis team started a two-match weekend by blanking William & Mary 7-0 Friday afternoon on the 47th-ranked Tribe's home court.
Blakely Ashley and Rachel Saiontz put the Tigers ahead 1-0 by tipping the doubles point to Princeton with an 8-6 victory at third doubles, while singles wins from Saiontz, Ashley and Taylor Marable helped Princeton reached the clincher. Wins from Monica Chow, Katherine Flanigan and Hilary Bartlett completed the sweep.
The 56th-ranked Tigers improved to 6-5 on the season against a strong schedule, with all five defeats coming to ITA-ranked teams. Princeton will try for back-to-back wins against ranked foes Saturday when it faces No. 43 Maryland at 11 a.m.
