Feb. 3 TigerCast: Dan Mavraides, Addie Micir And Chris Ayres
February 03, 2011 | General, Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball, Wrestling
Senior basketball standouts Dan Mavraides and Addie Micir are joined by wrestling head coach Chris Ayres on the latest edition of TigerCast.
Mavraides is a starting guard on a men's basketball team that hosts its biggest league home game in years this Friday night at 7 p.m. (ESPNU; Sirius 130) against Harvard. After sweeping both Brown and Yale last weekend, Princeton has won nine of its last 10 and is undefeated in league play; the Crimson comes in with the exact same credentials, and both were ranked highest in the Ivy League preseason poll. Mavraides is averaging 13.3 points per game and leads the team with 50 assists, and he talks about the journey from a tough freshman season to Friday's first-place showdown at Jadwin.
Micir is used to pressure-packed Ivy League competition after leading the Tigers to the 2010 Ivy title. After reaching the 1,000-point milestone earlier this season, Micir is now looking to lead Princeton to another Ivy championship. The Tigers face arguably their toughest challenge this weekend when they head to Harvard, the top-ranked offensive team in the league. Micir, one of the two top Ivy scorers in the game, talks about dealing with teammate Niveen Rasheed's injury, the importance of defense Friday night and the challenges of facing every team's best shot as the reigning Ivy champion.
While most winter teams have already begun league competition, the wrestling team will face its first Ivy match Saturday morning; by the end of the weekend, the Tigers will be more than halfway through the league schedule. Brown and Penn loom after the morning match against Harvard, and Ayres talks about the weekend, the experience of the successful New England road trip last year and how a couple of his talented starters could be on the verge of a late-season run.
