Ball State Sweeps Volleyball; Tigers Hope To Snap Skid Sunday
March 13, 2011 | Men's Volleyball
The Ball State Cardinals moved to 11-7 overall and extended the men's volleyball losing streak to nine with a 3-0 victory Saturday night in Dillon Gym.
Despite coming off a long overnight trip following a 3-1 loss to No. 4 Ohio State, the Cardinals got off to a quick start and kept Princeton fighting uphill throughout most of the three games. A 25-18 victory in the opener would be the closest of the three games, though Ball State made a late push to ensure the win. The Cardinals took the next two games 25-14 and 25-16 to finish the match.
Princeton had three players tie for a team high seven kills. Freshmen starters Jeff Stapleton and Davis Waddell both had seven, while sophomore Michael Dye added seven kills and two blocks. Stapleton added a team-high four digs, while junior Scott Liljestrom added 24 assists. Senior middle Keenan McCarthy had two kills, two blocks and Princeton's lone ace.
Princeton will look to avenge an earlier 3-1 loss to NYU when it plays the Violets on the road Sunday at 4 p.m. That will be the final match before a crucial three-match homestand, which includes a pair of Tait Division matches against Penn State and Saint Francis.
