Fencers Get Maximum 12 Bids for NCAA Finals
March 15, 2011 | Men's Fencing, Women's Fencing
Princeton's fencing teams are in elite company after getting the maximum 12 bids to the NCAA finals next weekend at Ohio State.
It is the second-straight year that Princeton, which finished sixth nationally a year ago, has gained the maximum 12. Only two other schools claimed 12 bids this year, Notre Dame and Ohio State.
Princeton's top finish since the combined men's-women's format began in 1990 is fourth, reached in 1994, 1996 and 1999.
The bids were awarded to the Tigers as follows: Mike Elfassy and Jonathan Yergler in men's epee, Robert Malcolm and Alexander Mills in men's foil, Philip Dershwitz and John Stogin in men's saber, Phoebe Caldwell and Hannah Safford in women's epee, Eve Levin and Hyun-Kyung Yuh in women's foil, and Eliza Stone and Diamond Wheeler in women's saber.
The championship will run from Mar. 24-27.
