Denver Gets Past Men's Tennis 4-3 in San Diego
March 19, 2011 | Men's Tennis
SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- Denver's four wins in singles play lifted the Pioneers to a 4-3 win over the Princeton men's tennis team Friday evening in San Diego.
The Tigers will play Alabama-Birmingham in a 10 a.m. Pacific Time match Saturday before heading back East. The Ivy League season will begin next weekend against Penn.
Princeton swept the doubles point, but Denver was able to win three of the four singles matches that went to third sets. Coupled with a straight-set win at third singles, it was enough to win the match.
Alex Faust won in both doubles and singles, teaming with Augie Bloom to win on court two before surviving a tiebreak in his first singles set on court five and sweeping Denver's Alex Clinkenbeard 6-0 in set two to claim the point. Coleman Crutchfield had a three-set victory on court six for Princeton's third point.
The loss drops the Tigers, ranked No. 53 in the nation by the ITA, to 7-5 on the season with four of the five losses coming by 4-3 scores.
