Tennis Teams to Play Pair of Weekend Matches
March 02, 2011 | Men's Tennis, Women's Tennis
Both Princeton tennis teams will be in action once again this weekend, with the women heading out on the road and the men hosting a pair in Jadwin Gym.
The women (5-5) will play first, getting a noon start Friday at No. 47 William & Mary (6-4) before playing an 11 a.m. match at No. 43 Maryland (8-2) Saturday. The Tigers checked in at No. 56 in this week's Intercollegiate Tennis Association ranking and have played a strong schedule, with all five losses coming to ITA top-40 teams. This weekend's matches will be the sixth and seventh among the first 12 matches of the season to be played against ITA-ranked teams.
The men (6-2) will look to extend their two-match win streak Saturday at 1 p.m. against St. John's (4-2), an opponent the Tigers defeated to open the ECAC championship tournament just two weekends ago. Sunday at 2 p.m., Princeton will take on Stony Brook (3-5). Both of Princeton's opponents will have additional matches prior to their meeting with the Tigers, as Stony Brook will take on Columbia Friday and St. John's will play a unique doubleheader Friday, first hosting Fordham and then traveling to Fairfield.
Following the weekend, each Princeton team will head to San Diego, Calif., for matches during Princeton's spring break week Mar. 14-18.
