The path toward defending the Ivy League title begins Saturday at noon for the Princeton women's tennis team, which is sure to find tough competition for the 2011 league crown.
More than half of the Ivy League is ranked in the latest ITA top 75, including Yale (28), Brown (40), Harvard (53), Princeton (55) and Dartmouth (72).
Penn enters the match at 6-8 and having won its last contest, a 4-3 decision over Georgetown. The Quakers also boast the top ITA-ranked singles player in the Ivy League, Connie Hsu, a freshman who is ranked 20th nationally and is one of just three top-125 singles players in the Ivy League. Harvard's Holly Cao (68) and Yale's Elizabeth Epstein (118) are the others. Hsu is 36-2 this season including fall play, with both losses coming in three sets and both involving a tiebreak during the match. In dual-match play, Hsu is 13-0, winning all in straight sets and never giving up more than four total games.
Princeton enters the match at 7-7 and on a nine-day break from competition. The Tigers, who have been ranked for the entire dual-match season, have faced eight ranked teams in their 14 matches.
After the Penn match, Princeton will host Brown and Yale next Friday and Saturday in two of its three home Ivy matches before hosting the regular-season finale April 17 against Cornell.
