Softball Series at Penn Shifted to Friday, Sunday
April 14, 2011 | Softball
Ivy South divisional play will begin a day earlier than originally scheduled for the Princeton softball team against Penn, as the series will now take place on Friday and Sunday in Philadelphia.
The series was supposed to be a Saturday-Sunday affair, but a rainy forecast for Saturday forced the off day in between the two doubleheaders. Friday's twinbill will begin at 2 p.m., while Sunday's will start at 12:30 p.m.
Princeton enters the series at 13-17 overall and 4-4 in the Ivy League's South division, just one game behind Cornell. Penn will take an overall record of 10-16-1 and an Ivy mark of 2-6 into the weekend. Elsewhere in the Ivy South, Cornell (16-16-1, 5-3) will head to Columbia (9-22, 1-7) for a series that, at the moment, is still scheduled for Saturday and Sunday despite a rainy forecast for Saturday in Manhattan.
Sophomore Lizzy Pierce leads Princeton at the plate with her .368 average, while sophomore Alex Peyton and junior Kelsey VandeBergh co-lead the team with four home runs apiece. Peyton also has the lowest ERA among Princeton's three pitchers at 3.53, while sophomore Liza Kuhn leads the staff in wins, with six, and senior Michelle Tolfa is the innings leader at 61.
Penn has four hitters above .300 with senior Alisha Prystowsky leading the team at .372. Nine players have split the team's 16 home runs. In the circle, five pitchers have seen action for the Quakers, but none more than freshman Mikenzie Voves, who has thrown 44% of the team's innings. Voves carries a 6-7 record and a 4.50 ERA.
The Tigers will return to the Class of 1895 Field Wednesday for a 3:30 p.m. twinbill against Monmouth before Ivy play comes back to '95 Field next weekend against Columbia.
