Men's Soccer Holds Annual Team Banquet

PRINCETON, N.J. (4/19/11) - The Princeton men's soccer team held its annual team banquet on Saturday, April 16 at the Woodrow Wilson School's Robertson Hall.
After the opening by head coach Jim Barlow and the musical stylings of junior Zach Wyzgoski, each of the team's 10 seniors were honored and delivered the annual witty and senitimental senior speeches. They included: Benjamin Burton, Brandon Busch, Matt Callahan, Peter Callahan, Thomas Gasparini, Max Hare, Sean Lynch, Tim Sedwitz. Missing from the banquet was Teddy Schneider, who recently signed a contract with the New York Red Bulls, had a game against San Jose.
Following the speeches, the Tigers received their 2010 Ivy League championship rings and it was announced that Mark Linnville will be the 2011 team captain. Three annual awards were then presented.
The Dr. William Trevor Trophy was awarded to senior Tim Sedwitz. The award is presented to the member of the Princeton men's soccer team who has shown the greatest improvement in the quality of play and attitude during the season. Sedwitz started all 18 games for the Tigers. He was part of the defense that has held teams to 1.06 goals per game and allowed just 37.8 percent of shots to make it on goal.
Senior Sean Lynch won the David S. Hackett Memorial Cup. The Cup is awarded annually to the member of the team whose enthusiasm, discipline and leadership contributed most to the team and the sport of soccer at Princeton. The captain of the 2010 team earned Ivy League Honorable Mention accolades after finishing with a 13-4-1 record with five shutouts. Lynch made 65 saves and allowed 19 goals for a 1.05 goals against average and a .774 save percentage.
The Robert Myslik Award was presented to twin brothers Matt and Peter Callahan. The Myslik Award is annually awarded to the member of the team who most demonstrates the passion for life, the fiery competitiveness, the unwavering honesty and the selfless generosity of Rob Myslik. As members of the reserve team the Callahan's fellow seniors remarked that this was the heart of the team.
Princeton went 13-4-1 in the 2010, earning the most wins in program history with a record 12-game winning streak. The Tigers went undefeated the Ivy League at 7-0 to be crowed the Ivy League champion and earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament. Eight member of the team were named All-Ivy, three earned all-region, two were drafted in the MLS supplemental draft and one received All-America honors.
At the end of the banquet head coach Jim Barlow presented the 2010 season highlight video and performed a musical rendition of Jay Z's Empire State of Mind.
