The Class of 1999 Cup: Radcliffe and Bucknell

No. 1 Women's Lights Retain Class Of 1999 Cup Against Radcliffe
April 23, 2011 | Women's Rowing - Lightweight
Princeton, which also defeated the Bucknell 1V Saturday morning, stayed perfect on the year by winning in 6:42.6, more than seven seconds faster than either of its two rivals. Radcliffe placed second in 6:49.7, while Bucknell took third in 7:03.1.
The victory now gives Princeton a win over each of the three teams ranked directly below it in the latest national poll. The Tigers opened the 2011 season in style, topping both Stanford (currently No. 2) and Wisconsin (No. 3) at a two-day regatta in Redwood Shores, Calif. Radcliffe is currently ranked fourth and had defeated Princeton the last time this regatta was held on the Charles River (2009), but Princeton made sure its perfect season remained intact.
The Princeton 2V suffered only its second loss of the season, finishing in 7:13.7, while Radcliffe won the race in 7:01.0.
Princeton will try to round out its regular season sweep of the top five teams in the poll when its hosts Georgetown next weekend for The Class of 2006 Cup. The regatta had been scheduled to race last weekend on the Potomac, but rough waters postponed the event. It will now be held Apr. 30 on Lake Carnegie as part of a full morning of Princeton rowing. The Tiger men's heavyweights and open women will also compete during the final regular season regatta of 2011.
