#4 Heavyweights Look For Strong Finish In Content Cup Regatta With #7 Brown
April 26, 2011 | Heavyweight Rowing
Two top contenders for the EARC and Ivy League championship will match up Saturday morning on Lake Carnegie, as the fourth-ranked Princeton heavyweight men and the seventh-ranked Brown Bears will meet for four races during a full morning of competition on the final day of the 2011 regular season.
Princeton, coming off its wins over Yale and Cornell last weekend for the Carnegie Cup, is 6-1 on the season and 4-1 against the Ivy League. It has been ranked inside the Top 5 throughout the season, and its only loss came two weeks ago to No. 3 Harvard. In fact, the Princeton 1V, 2V and F8 have each gone undefeated on the season outside of their races against Harvard.
The Tigers can do two things with a win Saturday. First, they could regain the Content Cup for the first time since Princeton's Ivy League championship season of 2006; since the trophy was first competed for in April 1994, Brown holds a 10-7 all-time edge and has won each of the last four. Second, it would likely clinch a No. 2 or 3 seed (Wisconsin and Boston Univ. would also be in the mix) for the May 15 EARC Championships and thus be the highest-seeded boat in its semifinal heat.
Princeton can also earn its first seven-win season since 2006, when the Tigers went 9-0 and won the EARC and Ivy League title.
Brown is 3-2 on the season, with its only losses coming to both Harvard and sixth-ranked Boston University.
Saturday morning will include competitions for both women's programs, as well as the heavyweight men; a full morning schedule is below.
