Ruggiero Wins Hammer Throw on Day 1 of Penn Relays
April 28, 2011 | Women's Track and Field
PHILADELPHIA (4/28/11) - Senior Emma Ruggiero got the Penn Relays started off right for the Princeton women's track & field team as she won the women's hammer throw championship in the Tigers' first event of the day on Thursday, April 28.
Ruggiero threw to 56.75 meters (186-2) to capture Princeton and the Ivy League's first win of the Relays. The win came during a windy morning at Franklin Field. A lightning/rain delay halted the Relays for 1.5 hours, with events resuming around 2:30 p.m.
Freshman Samantha Anderson finished sixth in the pole vault college reaching 3.80 meters, and senior Thanithia Billings was eighth in the shot put championship with a throw of 14.85 meters.
The 4x400 relay took fourth with a time of 3:50.00 in the 4x400 Heptagonal, that consisted of the Ivy League teams except Brown. Danielle Glaeser, Carrie Vuong, Eileen Moran and Joie Hand comprised the relay team.
The Tigers will be back at it tomorrow, competing in three more events: the triple jump, 4x200 and and 4x1500.
