Annual Softball Series with Lehigh to Renew Wednesday
April 04, 2011 | Softball
The annual softball series with Lehigh will be renewed Wednesday at 3 p.m. for Princeton with a twinbill at the Class of 1895 Field.
Princeton and Lehigh have met every year since 2003 except for a rainout in 2009, with the teams tied at 9-9 during that span including two NCAA tournament meetings in 2005 and 2008.
The Tigers enter this year's meeting at 10-14 overall on the season after a weekend split against Brown and Yale that put Princeton at 2-2 in the Ivy League, just one game behind Cornell in the Ivy South standings. Princeton will resume the Ivy League schedule Friday at Harvard and Saturday at Dartmouth.
The Mountain Hawks are also in the thick of their league race, standing at 16-14 overall and 3-1 in the Patriot League, and bring a young pitching staff into the midweek contest. Freshman Kelsey Lee (2-3, 2.79) has the top ERA on the staff, while freshman Ashley Quigley (6-8, 4.60) leads the team with 70 innings pitched and sophomore Rebecca Bliss has a team-best 8-3 record to go with her 3.36 ERA. At the plate, sophomore Liz Lucas has a .393 batting average with 14 doubles and five of the team's eight home runs.
Sophomore Lizzy Pierce leads the Tigers with a .368 batting average, while junior Kelsey VandeBergh and sophomore Alex Peyton each have four home runs. In the circle, sophomore Liza Kuhn (5-2, 7.81) leads the team in wins, while sophomore Alex Peyton (2-8, 4.18) has the team's lowest ERA and senior Michelle Tolfa (3-4, 5.25) is second in innings with 56.
