Men's Tennis Tops Dartmouth, Improves to 4-0 in Ivy
April 09, 2011 | Men's Tennis
PRINCETON -- Dan Richardson's singles win on court five provided the clinching victory as the Princeton men's tennis team defeated Dartmouth 4-3 Saturday at the Lenz Tennis Center to stay perfect in Ivy League play at 4-0.
It is the first time since 1992 that the Tigers are 4-0 in league play. That span includes the era of Ivy League men's tennis, now in its 13th season, and goes back to the Eastern Intercollegiate Tennis Association, which included the eight Ivies plus Army and Navy. All four of Princeton's Ivy League wins this season have come by 4-3 margins.
Against the Big Green, Princeton led only once before the final margin, with that lead coming after Matija Pecotic and Matt Siow picked up singles wins to counter Dartmouth's sweep of the doubles point.
Dartmouth picked up the next two wins, putting Princeton behind 3-2 with Augie Bloom and Dan Richardson still on court. Both prevailed, Bloom getting a second-set tiebreak to tie the overall team score at 3-3, and Richardson rallying from a first-set loss to win his match and deliver the 4-3 final team margin.
Princeton and Cornell remain the only Ivy League men's tennis teams without a loss after Cornell got a win over Brown Saturday, also by a 4-3 margin.
Princeton will host Harvard Sunday at 2 p.m. on the outdoor courts at the Lenz Tennis Center if rain stays away or inside at Jadwin Gym if inclement weather comes.
