Men's Tennis to Play in ITA Kickoff Weekend Event
June 10, 2011 | Men's Tennis
PRINCETON -- Coming off its winningest Ivy League season in more than a decade, the Princeton men's tennis team earned a berth in the ITA Kickoff Weekend annual event, which begins with 60 teams and pares down toward the ITA National Indoor Championship.
Princeton will play in the Texas A&M-hosted foursome as the No. 3 seed of four and will begin against second-seeded Mississippi State. No. 4 seed Purdue will face Texas A&M, and the winners and losers of those two matches will meet. The team that wins both matches will advance to Virginia to compete in the national event.
The regional event will take place Jan. 27-30, 2012, with the national event two weeks later.
Princeton's foursome is a strong one, with Texas A&M coming off a Round of 16 run in this spring's NCAA tournament and Mississippi State having advanced to the second round in that field.
The Tigers finished the season ranked No. 63 on the ITA top-75 list, while Purdue was at No. 64, Texas A&M was at No. 10 and Mississippi State was at No. 20.
Princeton had a 13-7 overall record and 6-1 in the Ivy League, its most league wins since the Ivy began sponsoring men's tennis in 1999.
