Shon Finishes Play at U.S. Women's Open
July 09, 2011 | Women's Golf
Princeton rising sophomore Kelly Shon has finished her play at the U.S. Women's Open at The Broadmoor's East Course in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Shon turned in a first-round 74 and a second-round 76 to stand at +8 over three weather-interrupted days of play between Thursday, July 7 and Saturday, July 9, but missed the cut by just one shot. The top 60 players in the U.S. Open, ties included, advance to the third and fourth rounds of play, and 72 players out of the field of 156 shot the +7 or better needed to advance. Japan's Mika Miyazato set the standard at the midway point with a -5 through two rounds as one of five players in red numbers.
Shon was tied for sixth among amateurs and tied for 26th among American players, as the U.S. is one of 25 nations represented in the tournament.
