Women's Soccer Holds First Fall Practice of 2011
August 19, 2011 | Women's Soccer
Two weeks before the start of the 2011 season, the Princeton women's soccer team held its first fall practice Friday, Aug. 19.
The Tigers will head to California to open their season with a game at Long Beach State on Sept. 2, two days before visiting Cal State Northridge on Sept. 4. While six of Princeton's non-conference opponents will begin their seasons on the same date on which the Tigers held their first practice, all the Ivy schools were able to open camp on the same day and all eight will play their first game on the same night.
Princeton welcomes eight freshmen to the team while returning its top two point scorers from a year ago, juniors Jen Hoy (6 goals, 7 assists) and Caitlin Blosser (7 goals). The Tigers also return junior goalkeeper Kristin Watson, though competition for time between the posts will be strong with five keepers on the roster.
In 2010, Princeton took its pursuit of the Ivy League title to the final day, hosting Penn in a winner-take-all match before the Quakers prevailed 1-0. This season, Princeton will have seven home games, with the opener happening on Sept. 18 against La Salle. The first Ivy contest will also be at home, six days later on Sept. 24 against Yale.
